How to conduct experiments in Amplitude

Apr 1, 2025

Amplitude contains several products:

  • Analytics: Where user behavior analysis is performed.

  • CDP: Where audiences are managed and the recommendation model can be used.

  • Experiment: Where Amplitude provides tools to test any hypotheses you have about your product.

All these products work on Amplitude’s recommendation engine, which is where all the magic happens. This, in turn, works with data source management, governance, and user identity resolution.

Stages of the Experimentation Process

  • Idea: This starts with recognizing a problem and looking for a possible solution. Hypotheses are formed on how to solve it.

  • Experiment Design: At this stage, you decide how many variants you want and which types of audiences will be exposed to the experiment.

  • Rollout: During this stage, you monitor how the experiment progresses and how the variants performed based on a metric.

  • Learn: In this final stage, you analyze the results and conclude whether the hypothesis was true or false.

If you want to see how an experiment is conducted, you can check out this video for a step-by-step guide.
